Opening Doors to Hope and Opportunity ~ House by House ~ Block by Block

Open Door Baltimore is an independent nonprofit community development corporation formed in 2006 to "stimulate economic revitalization and community development in distressed neighborhoods in Baltimore, Maryland."

Open Door Baltimore (ODB) is located in lower East Baltimore serving seven contiguous neighborhoods near Johns Hopkins Hospital:

• McElderry Park
• Baltimore-Linwood
• Patterson Place
• Ellwood Park/Monument
• Madison-Eastend
• Milton-Montford
• Baltimore Highlands

ODB works collaboratively with schools, civic groups, congregations, businesses, agencies, foundations and other nonprofits to identify resources, build community capacity, and coordinate solution-focused holistic responses to community needs.

Emphasizing the redemptive principles of "renewal, restoration, and reconciliation," ODB believes it is wrong for 151,000 Baltimoreans, 24% of the population, to live in poverty in the nation's most affluent state.  ODB is a strong advocate for ending generational poverty that immobilizes families and communities and feeds a cycle of failure and futility.

The core vision of ODB is the realization of six community objectives in lower East Baltimore:

• lifetime learning
• meaningful employment
• livable wages
• safe streets
• thriving families
• healthy neighborhoods

The mission of ODB is to be a:

• source of hope and encouragement for people who need a new start
• community hub that links people to positive and constructive endeavors
• catalyst for business creation and affordable housing
• safe haven where God's heart for hurting people is made real every day

ODB is:

• governed by an elected Board of Directors who serve one-year terms
• funded through donations from individuals, businesses, and congregations
• not the recipient of government funding
• not the recipient of fee-for-service income--services are provided free of charge
• recognized by the IRS as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization
• also recognized as a 509(c) public charity
• audited annually by Peters & Woodring, LLC of Owings, Mills, Maryland
• a member of the Maryland Association of Nonprofit
 Organizations
